It's similar to the 80s crash in the sense it is a financial problem.
Most studios are public traded, nobody is investing in game studios for their "stable sure business" as a wealth reserve, they are investing for the cassino rush of picking the next Angry Birds.
When a company raises like, 500 million dollars to make a game, they have to use those 500 million dollars "to make it a viral hit", because if they don't use all the money, and the game doesn't make 50x the investment, the investors can sue you for fraud. So they do over-expend/over-hire, buy out the competition, etc... it becomes an illogical market, ridden by fraud.
Doesn't help Blackrock owns most studios. Or the chinese hand.
