Friends and family paid tribute to Representative John Lewis (D-GA) at a funeral service in Atlanta. The civil rights leader died July 17, 2020. Speakers included former Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). The presidents remembered the life and legacy of Representative Lewis and shared personal stories. President Obama hailed Mr. Lewis as a “founding father” of a “fuller, fairer, better America.” He also called for revitalization of the Voting Rights Act, increased voter turnout, and eliminating the filibuster, calling the Senate action that delays or blocks a vote on a bill “a Jim Crow relic.”
