He's whining because he forcefully convinced himself that you have to be a cute girl or have friends to go to concerts and art shows.
Obviously neither things are necessary, most people at concerts and museums tend to be dudes unless it's about mainstream pop music.
He's just precluding himself from the experience either because he's a lazy slob or because he doesn't actually care and only wants the "cred" or whatever that comes with it.
