I want to address all the "e-girls" who chose to break their own anonymity, take their persona on and interact with their "orbiters" here. Though maybe an average Anon could find something to think about in the following opinion.
First and foremost I want to point out a role model for you on how to use imageboards in general and how to use it in your favour.
She >>7748 is using imageboards for about a decade now. I'm sure she had her own learning curve and problems with them, but she learnt to stay anonymous. She used Endchan for a while, and she might even uses it up to this day, I don't know, I can't know, because if she does it, she uses it anonymously. She does not announces herself to get attention, she can't be distinguished from any other users of the site.
She is also a content creator. She makes videos, no pornographic content tho I'm sure some of her fans uses them as such, but she does comedic skits, regular chitchats, and autistic hobby how tos. With the help of imageboards she built a fanbase, and her videos are watched by hundreds, some of the spicier by the thousands. She offers her videos for free, with the possibility of donation. She also hosts a personal website where she publishes her other creations, writings, tutorials, opinions, comics, whatnot, I think she even has a how to somewhere about making your own site.
It's not easy to handle fame on imageboards. People are more open, less filtered when giving you their opinions. Without a face it is easier to be mean just for the sake to be mean. It is easier to run all kinds of mischiefs. It is easy to do one thing and then lie about it. She still went with imageboards and had her own board which - to my understanding - herself run as a BO on the late 8chan (rebranded as 8kun some years ago). Someone made a board with the same name here at Endchan, and she set up her own here too. Now she hosts somewhere her own full imageboard, which offers a way for her fan base to interacting with her.
Being a BO has the advantage to run a board to your taste, and don't have to argue with a BO you don't agree with. You can moderate it along your own guidelines and principles. You can put content up in a regulated fashion (ie. different threads for different contents and topics). You can set up your Onlychans account on Endchan, and create your own board, you can even "employ" your own staff of volunteers. And finally you still can set up your own chan, quite a few board engines are available - this needs a bit more knowhow however.
There are things that being a BO or a chan owner won't help you with, and things you can't stop:
- people posting about you on agatha2 or elsewhere;
- setting up their own boards about you;
- gossiping about you, inventing things about you, writing mean stuff, truthful or lies;
- reposting your shared content;
- editing your content;
- and finally you dealing with the consequences of your own decisions and mistakes.
Even Ashley "has" a thread about her on /agatha2/ as you could see above, with all kinds of bs written.
What you can do is to decide how you react to others, to their posts, bs and behaviour. Many comments are made in the hope to provoke reaction. You can decide if you want to feed trolls or not, and it is your responsibility.
At the end of the day imageboards aren't for everyone. Anonymous imageboards were made for anonymous interactions. If you can't stay anonymous, or can't handle the reactions when you break your anonymity, ask yourself. Perhaps the best decision for you would be staying away from them?
