>90% of the songs are shit
that's just your opinion (fwiw i tend to agree; the generic form of dance music that began with disco has ironically ruined "dance" music). but consider the following:

1. turbonormies (majority of the population) simply don't care, they just want a loud beat, a sort of relentless ambience, a constant motion. a firewall against awkward silences, if you will. 200 years ago it was a dude with a fiddle, it's nothing new
2. a good dj picks good songs
3. any big city has dozens (if not hundreds) of different club nights dedicated to specific themes/styles/genres/time periods, practically guaranteeing dud-free dancing for anyone with aligning tastes

>but wouldn't having your friends in your house plus using a speaker be far more effective
effective at hearing music you enjoy? sure, but non-autistic people like to be pleasantly surprised. that's probably one of the greatest pleasures in life, big or small. it's like hearing the intro to a great song sputtering through the car radio static just as you merge onto the freeway. intentionally searching, selecting and playing it on your phone doesn't have the same "oh hell yes" factor
