Temple is in the wrong spot. To go into the temple you had to ritually clean yourself and the spring isn't close enough for them to do that.
It is now because of all the tunnels and channels and stuff.
There's allegedly another 'floor' beneath it.
Bathing in spring water in an underground cave does sound pretty awesome.
