Can't say this will be a favorite to everyone, but here are my top 5 recommendations:

America, America.
Deep Purple, Machine Head.
Wicked Lady, The Axeman Cometh.
Skeeter Davis, End Of The World.
ZZ Top, Fandango!

Most of this is classic rock 'n roll. There were many other great records during that time, like Focus "Moving Waves" and Black Sabbath "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", or who could forget Elvin Bishop's "Juke Joint Jump" record? You could hear the desires for freedom and rebellion just in the music alone. Music was rocking at that time, very little produced like it today.
