Another mutilated body was found in the swamps Saturday morning. The same suspicious cause of death as many others, deep puncture marks all over the neck and torso as if bitten by the fangs of a large snake, and the extremities chewed down to stumps. It never made sense to investigators how or why nearby farm animals, such as chickens, barn cats and dogs, were never found killed or eaten in such a way, as if the predator simply ignored these easy meals. Whatever the creature is, it hates and hunts humans exclusively. It attacks from behind, sinks its enormous fangs into the victims neck for the kill and is capable of immense strength, dragging its victims for miles into the bayou depths in less than an hour.
The police always put out a brief press release claiming it was a rogue gator or hunting accident. The press is not allowed access to the investigation. Autopsy photos are always sealed for the highest clearance of the parish police to see. The county Sheriff, Richard Miles, ordered a gag order on legal releases, They do not want to cause panic, they do not want people to flee the already impoverished swampy farmlands of the area. It's been nicknamed the Baton Beast or "BonBeast" by locals, or "She of the Blackened Dark" in local voodoo circles.
But so many residents in the area know the rumors and legends circulating around for the past 4 years. There had been a traumatized few who claim to have had close encounters with something horrid lurking the bayou in the middle of the night. Almost nobody has seen the beast, except one woman who said she saw a humanoid creature with unnatural pink hair crawling fast through her backyard bushes, but could make out little else on such a dark moonless night. The woman was likely only saved by turning on all her lights and firing a warning shot into the forest with her shotgun.
But they've all heard it, even if they didn't see it. The clicking, the incessant clicking noise the thing makes. It gets louder and louder as the beast moves closer, and each survivor has had to find shelter or source of light fast enough before it got too close. Some have said that they've even heard luring voices. "As it got louder, I heard in my head a whisper: 'Follow me. Follow me' and it got louder.." said one unnamed witness.
These events have not gone unnoticed by the paranormal community at large. Cryptzoologists from across the world have noted that some blind humans have adapted to using clicking to see in the dark, through bat-like echolocation, the same way underwater sonar works. This beast likely can hunt in the pitch black of the night this way using this clicking to hunt. Regardless of all the official denials, the townsfolk of the bayou now lock every door at night and sleep with the garden lights on
