Humans have the instinct of self-preservation into their core being; that's one of the reasons human are still around Earth. But, sometimes, humans have to work hard to get enough energy (water, food, gas,...) for self-preservation, because of that, Earth is just one of many possible hellish places.
We desire abundance (>>837) of energy, so it is obvious that we want all basic energetic concepts like self-preservation or never depletion of energy, in order to be eternal beings.
