I don't really watch fujoshi-aimed stuff (though Watashi wa Motete Dousunda was kinda funny) but shoujo anime is one of the toppest on my list.
Seriously, can any anime beat Magic Knight Rayearth or Juuni Kokuki? You tell me my anime pros.

I can kinda see what you mean with C, I remember liking how ridiculous it got with its stupid premise, all the while still trying to take itself seriously. I wish the director would do some more shows, since he hasn't done anything since S2 of Crowds.
Pyscho Pass 1 was good, if you're talking about the later seasons I could see what you mean, but how was the original "trying to hard"?

I like how he says "anime wasn't as mainstream back then" as if there wasn't major cable networks literally dedicated to broadcasting anime, and fucking multiple weeb stores in every shopping mall, or the fucking height of fan subbing communities.
I remember video rental stores specifically had entire sections of the store for anime.

The only difference I see between now and back then is that we didn't have twitter for 12 year old retards to rampantly shitpost about Naruto, or Dragon Ball, or Gundam, or Outlaw Star, or One Piece, or Zatch Bell, or a hundred others for 12 hours. Instead we had to sit through them being obnoxious in between classes in middle-school for it.

God fucking damn. I remember BEGGING my grandmother to buy me Zoids.

Places like Hot Topic don't count. They're generic "pop culture" stores.

Fan subbing was never mainstream. Although, its shit like CR making anime more accessible for normalfags that killed fansubs.

Your local mall was SHIT.
Also they kinda started to die out as the internet became better at supplying weebs without having to leave the comfort of the basement.

I really don't think it's increased the number, I just think it's made their online preasense more visible.

I had this conversation with Tsuchi like last week, where the internet actually used to be kind of a Hellscape back in it's early wild west days. The halcyon days of the net, devoid of anything really resembling social media, meant that everyone had their own corner to jerk off in private in, and you had to seek them out.
Not be bombarded by it on the top 5 most popular websites.

>>19633
I tried really hard to be one, but didn't quite fit in with that crowd either.
It ended up just being shoes that were comfortable to wear to school, and easy to slip on and off for gym.
On the weekends I went right back to blue jeans and boots.

Finished a normal run of Titan Quest. Alt+tabbing causes that game to freeze and I have to restart it.
Started playing NieR:Automata yesterday. Alt+tabbing doesn't really do anything game-breaking there, but it does make the mouse cursor visible at all times right in the very middle of the monitor. Quite annoying.

While playing this new hobo simulator game on Youtube, you know the title, Death Stranding or something, there was an actual product placement scene with MONSTER of all energy drinks you could possibly choose from.
DeStr - boomer game confirmed.

Actually I've thought about good use of the game, check this out:
You load up your character so much that the load is actually longer than the character, then you play the drunk hobo simulator for a while, then you walk off a cliff. Oh my, just imagining this makes me want to actually play it.
>but isn't this a stealth game?
Not really. I am actually a firm believer Kojima makes poor stealth games and good interactive movies or something. MGS is awful.

Sure everything was very detailed, but there were only like, what? Four different areas? And the only one of those that was even remotely visually interesting was the destroyed city. The rest were boring and barren as shit, with the only thing to search for if you're going off the path required for the story being the bunkers for le epic celebrity cameos.

"Boring" is the poor way to describe why you didn't like the game. There are many different types of boring and DeStr is just so poor in gameplay I wouldn't even consider it a game if I had my way with words. But alas, it is technically a game.

The cutscenes were well done but the story was complete nonsense so it kinda cancels out. Aside from like the first two, most of the required action segments felt super tedious. Although, I'll admit one of the few things I found legitimately fun about the game was running into the bandits' bases and knocking the shit out of them with packages.

How is boring a poor way to describe a game? Being boring is about the biggest sin a game can commit, so its a valid complaint.

>most of the required action segments felt super tedious
That might be just your problem. Can you compare it to other stealth games? From what I have seen the stealth was just "avoid those semi-blind invis things and you're good". This is awful. Nobody should be forced to play this game as it is actually easy and mostly just tedious like you said.
>Four different areas? And the only one of those that was even remotely visually interesting was the destroyed city. The rest were boring and barren as shit
Well, I have felt the same way about Nier:Automata (not about the amount of areas but the general emptiness and boringness). As a counterexample, Dark Souls 1 were so good as far as level design and artistic value of levels go.

No, because I've literally never played any other stealth games. Although, I'm not talking about those I'm talking about the parts where the game actually forces you into the action.
Eh, I liked Nier Automata's environments. At the very least it made for a more interesting empty post apocalyptic world than Death Stranding's.

>Although, I'm not talking about those I'm talking about the parts where the game actually forces you into the action.
IIRC Kojima himself referred to the game as a "stealth game". That's more yikes.
Though I haven't seen the moments because I couldn't bring myself to watch any more of that.
>At the very least it made for a more interesting empty post apocalyptic world than Death Stranding's.
That's probably true but the environments in DeStr are actually part of gameplay. Like I said, you should be walking off a cliff with max load to maximize the fun. Then when you die you quit the game because you got everything out of it, unironically. xD I think the somewhat realistic balancing on a meaningful surface is the most innovative and cool about the game. But you cannot literally play it ALL THE DAMN TIME.

Kojima also claimed that it was a completely new genre of game called a "strand game". Whatever the fuck that means.

I think he means the online involvement, the likes and stuff, there. Dunno how it's new because Dark Souls had it about the decade prior, and that's not even speaking about all actual multiplayer games out there lol. I am not sure what Kojima's thinking but he might getting some actual boomer braindamage.
>I once heard it described as the most innovative walking simulator ever made, and I think thats a pretty app description of the game.
100% true.

It sucks, I thought the 7 minute runtime worked well for some comedy shows, especially compared to the typical 3 minute short which really only works for very fast paced comedy like Teekyu or Ai Mai Mii. And there are definitely some shows I feel would've benefited from being not full length, like Pop Team Epic.

Be careful fusing and upgrading chips too. Look up a guide on it.

And I've been measuring it. I'm at 128/128, with something quite decent I think. I mean, did beat the lvl 50 monk and the quest with the overpowered small bipods at lvl 25 during first playthrough without much of a problem.
Maybe it'll become different and more difficult later on. Or normal difficulty is too forgiving

I wanted to say something about Nier:Automata but it all boils down to me not liking console games, console control scheme and what seems to be mostly consistent with Japanese game design (they design nice 2D games but their 3D games are absolutely awful and reek of 2D safe for couple exceptions).
Also I feel sad that people play the same game with little to no change over and over, and people actually buy this. You've played this kind of game in DMC, Dark Souls, and numerous other 3rd person slashing games. There is a bit of variety to it, I'll admit but it looks like everyone on imageboards treats these kinds of games as a godsend every damn time. It is just sad.
But like I said, maybe I just don't like these games.

People also love newgame+ and newgame++ modes. Now those are indeed the exact same game.
If you consider the NieR:Automata playthroughs as newgame+, then are it really that bad? It's better even, since it's not the exact same, but varies slightly, as you said.
The story itself is also good, and I do like how you end up experiencing the same from another perspective. That's quite different from what you usually see.
The music is absolutely amazing as well.
These are among the reasons I like this game at least. Sure, controller scheme took quite a lot of time to get used to, but so do regular keyboard as well for new games. You got the basics down immediately, such as how you move and attack, but utilizing this properly, is down to each game, not the controlling scheme

I don't want to rant about it any more.
The game is solid but it's worse than Dark Souls or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice in pretty much every way imaginable. Japs can make good games only occasionally, I suppose.

It isn't that difficult. The worst thing about the game is broken hitboxes, probably.
And c'mon, you are fighting Artificial Idiot enemies there, the only way they win is when they outnumber and swarm you.

It has the lore and some weird side stories going on. I don't glorify it but it is kinda cool.

Well, for one thing the final party member, who's also the main heroine, is boring and bland as fuck, but once she joins the party the whole game basically is just her and Shulk, everyone else in the party just kinda takes a back seat. I wouldn't care as much if she was a better character, but she's just not. Also her one good trait is being a hot robot girl, but she gets turned back into a human at the end, which is never even explicitly explained.
For another thing, probably the most fun part of the game is exploring the huge areas and finding hidden areas and what not, but the last couple areas are pretty linear without much exploration to be done, and even the last few big open areas are pretty bland in comparison to the earlier ones, which makes sense thematically because the party is in robot territory at that point, but it makes it less exciting from a game perspective.
This one may not have been a problem if I hadn't played 2 first, but 2 actually fleshes out the main antagonist a bit more, whereas in this game he comes off as pretty one note.

Do you guys actually like this game? I mean, I am not here to judge anyone but myself, but this looks like one of those grindy games which are generally boring because battles consist of spamming the same trick over and over, monsters are just giant punchbags and there are just giant signs of irrelevant information flashing in your face over and over again. Also characters having some stupid lines when they are not asked for, and that is not even about their combat abilities. As far as I am concerned, this is giga cringe.
So, what can be enjoyed about this game even? Obviously the world is pretty but there are prettier games than this one. Grindy gameplay when you turn your brain off can be relaxing but is this why you play this?
Again, I don't mean to be offensive but as I realize I may sound like a douche, I ask for your opinion. Well, maybe I am a douche, whatever.

I like JRPG combat, of course this does vary from game to game, but Xenoblade's is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Of course, I understand that JRPGs are not for everyone, Spec doesn't like them either, but they're my cup of tea and I'd much rather play them than the shitty FPS or "Souls-likes" that seem to dominate the market these days.
I'm fine with shutting my mind off to do some grinding to. I've had some pretty comfy times recently listening to vtubers while getting some grinding done. And if grinding isn't your thing, you can always lower the difficulty.
Sure, none of the Xenoblade games are the most graphically capable games out there, partly because of the systems they run on, but there's still clearly a lot of thought and artistry put into desigining and laying out the areas in these games, way more so than most JRPGs, and because of that they look way better than any soulless western AAA title out there.
I also typically like JRPG stories. Sure they're not literary masterpieces, but they're fun and like anime and manga have that unique Jap charm you won't find in western media.

FPS as an idea of a game are better than some random action game in general. There is just more to play with. And if you actually have to think about your weapon usage and positioning, is it really a bad game?
And Souls or whatever game with solid combat system makes it more mechanical skill oriented, I suppose, making the RPG part (skill/ability/equipment builds) kinda silly but they are still in the game making it deeper.
Also do the games end with action-adventure games for you or what is this one-sided comment? Do you know about that one kinda simple in idea but pretty fun game called FTL, for example?
>I've had some pretty comfy times recently listening to vtubers while getting some grinding done.
Vtubers are another thing I don't understand lol.
>And if grinding isn't your thing, you can always lower the difficulty.
Grinding as a part of increasing the "difficulty" of the game is bad design, in my opinion. "Lowering" the difficulty isn't the answer because at that point I might as well just be there for the story and play the game on jewtube, which I do with most of the games anyway lol.
>but there's still clearly a lot of thought and artistry put into desigining and laying out the areas in these games, way more so than most JRPGs, and because of that they look way better than any soulless western AAA title out there.
I don't see how from comparing JRPGs you jump to the conclusion about Western AAAs but I don't play either so I really shouldn't see. xD
>I also typically like JRPG stories. Sure they're not literary masterpieces, but they're fun and like anime and manga have that unique Jap charm you won't find in western media.
Well, there is still a stark difference between grim ever-resurrecting world of Dark Souls, another grim corrupted world of Sekiro and some cutesy-clear stuff like Xenoblade or some another really mixed world with its dark corners and bright corners like Grandia II. All stories are written by Japs and are clearly charming or whatever, but you picked Xenoblade. xD

>is it really a bad game?
I'm not saying all FPS are inherently bad, but they're not my cup of tea and it seems like only the most generic ones like COD and its knock offs dominate the market.
I've only played one Soulslike, and I enjoyed it for what it was but I'd still prefer JRPGs. And once again, my point was simply that these are the types of games that dominate today's game market, and that they are not the type of game I like. Its perfectly fine if you like them and don't like JRPGs.
>FTL
I know of it, never played it. Seems like a fun and somewhat unique game, but its pretty niche and I'm not really sure what your point in bringing it up is.
>Vtubers are another thing I don't understand
That's fine, you don't have to.
>"Lowering" the difficulty isn't the answer because at that point I might as well just be there for the story
Well, as I said, I do typically enjoy JRPG stories so their may be some people out there who do play them solely for that(although at that point I would just watch anime or the cutscenes on youtube, like you said) however there may also be some people who like the battle system itself but don't want to deal with the grinding. Either way, I'm fine with the grinding so it doesn't really matter.
>I don't see how from comparing JRPGs you jump to the conclusion about Western AAAs but I don't play either so I really shouldn't see.
My point was that budget and pure graphical quality isn't everything in what makes a game "look good".
I'll admit upfront I have not played any Dark Souls or Sekiro, so this is just my perception from some videos I've played but the Souls games all just have a pretty bleak visual style. It of course works for them, but its not particularly exciting either. Sekiro is pretty nice looking though. Not sure what you mean by "cutesy-clear" but Xenoblade has a lot of varied areas and most of them look pretty damn good.
I wasn't saying that Xenoblade in particular had some amazing story, just that it like most JRPGs have that Jap charm, which is part of why me and so many people like them over western or more mainstream games.

>And once again, my point was simply that these are the types of games that dominate today's game market, and that they are not the type of game I like. Its perfectly fine if you like them and don't like JRPGs.
Nah, I dislike them and I suck at FPS.
I'm just trying to put down some gameplay perspective.
For example, 1st person usually means much better immersion and control by mouse if that's on PC, and mouse is such a superior device for precision pointing and usually other types of controlling (combined with keyboard) that human performance on controllers looks pretty sad.
RPGs are generally incomparable to shooters in the "RPG" part because character build is in the different realm, but as far as 3D actions are concerned we may compare them for what they're worth.
>Seems like a fun and somewhat unique game, but its pretty niche and I'm not really sure what your point in bringing it up is.
I was mainly asking if the JRPGs are the only games you play.
Then I could admire your dedication or be horrified of you playing the same genre forever, it's your choice. xD
I certainly couldn't play the same genre forever.
>That's fine, you don't have to.
Don't be so defensive, I promise I won't bite.
Lay out your feelings about vtubers for me like I am a dumb kid. Or don't, that's cool too.
>however there may also be some people who like the battle system itself but don't want to deal with the grinding.
The question then becomes why would you put grinding in your game in the first place.
I don't see any answer other than there are players who actually don't have a full grasp on the combat mechanics and therefore you cannot label them as "liking the combat system" because they don't really get the game. Or you purposefully put some really steep curve enemies which cannot be ran away from or gamed around somehow so you lock up people in some areas like that. Either way I see it as bad design.
>My point was that budget and pure graphical quality isn't everything in what makes a game "look good".
Well, yeah. There are games prettier than Xenoblade as far as art is concerned too. Also draw distance really helps with that as well lol.
>but its not particularly exciting either.
Ehhh...
DS look awesome. I don't think you need acid colors to see the beauty and be excited about it.
>Not sure what you mean by "cutesy-clear"
That 20min video I linked is all cutesy and clear-colored, with rather sharp color/edge distinctions. That's why I linked Rabi Ribi music video lol. What's your take on metroidvanias BTW?
>that Jap charm
Earlier I wanted to demonstrate that "Jap charm" can mean a lot of different things, apparently. I guess I failed. What do you like about Japanese stories yourself?

>Lay out your feelings about vtubers for me like I am a dumb kid.
I wasn't being defensive, like JRPGs I simply realize its something that is not for everyone. I like cute anime girls, its really no more complicated than that.
>The question then becomes why would you put grinding in your game in the first place.
Character progression, because these are stat not action based games. Granted I also think the need for grinding in most JRPGs is greatly exaggerated by its detractors unless we're talking about something like Disgaea.
>There are games prettier than Xenoblade as far as art is concerned too.
I'm not gonna say Xenoblade is the prettiest game out there, but I do think its up there. Thats my personal opinion and you're free to disagree, art is subjective.

After looking for more info I realized that it is actually an ancient franchise which actually is getting some sort of remake right now. I cannot watch the remake without watching the original/more ancient adaptation so I decided to do it maybe later.
I was mostly interested if there are new battle shounen/seinen anime works/adaptations apart from One Punch Man. One Punch is great but always could use more. Air Master is different also - the MC is a girl and it's not some self-reflective show of "what would become of a hero who could defeat anybody with just one punch", it's more of a standard power-up shounen show, which is also kinda wacky and ridiculous.

Name some random examples from the top of your head.
>I like cute anime girls, its really no more complicated than that.
You don't really need to watch some vtubers to do just that. For example, you could draw anime girls. I used to do that. xD
>Character progression, because these are stat not action based games.
The point probably went over your head.
Characters can progress in a lot of ways and killing hordes upon hordes of the same enemies really seems like bad design.
>Granted I also think the need for grinding in most JRPGs is greatly exaggerated by its detractors unless we're talking about something like Disgaea.
That might be but I would also argue that if you are bad at the game you either should become better or stop playing it, and giving you an option to progress by stat-boosting is a mistake. In fact, going ahead of the curve in RPG games totally ruins them, especially if scaling is steep.
>I'm not gonna say Xenoblade is the prettiest game out there, but I do think its up there.
I dunno, non-antialiased stuff, including the characters, looks pretty bad in 3D in the current year. If you want a pixelated game, make a pixelart-sy game, those are cute.
>I dunno, its kinda hard to describe.
Please try, I'll wait. xD

I see a starry night sky...
"They're just ink-blots" comes to mind from this question.

The board owner of /yuri/ didn't know how to do fuck, and couldn't delete spam and CP posts, which were starting to pile up on the board. But also refused any and all outside help, or the promotion of anyone to moderator to assist him.
This combined with personal drama prompted the creation of this board.
However, his board is still up, and in frustration he finally made me a mod of the other board so I could clean the place up.
So as it stands now, 50% of the people that post here, also post there anyway, and I'm stuck moderating TWO boards that are effectively the same thing. The pointlessness of having two equal, but separate boards, just because of effectively two people, is starting to wear on my patience.

I come here when I feel like talking to a few people I know decently enough, or, at the very least, not get banned because I said something that might be slightly right of center. If I've got a lot of important things going on, I won't bother posting here. Is there something you're scared of?

I don't think I'll get banned or anything, no.
It's a couple of things for me. The big one is that I'm habitually stuck posting in a place like this, despite numerous attempts to leave. I don't want to be stuck in a place where the people around me frustrate me, or even don't want me around. That's just awful.
I also don't want to even be associated with him, which is kind of hard to avoid over there.

I didn't think you would either, I was just pointing that out as plus for me. Basically because it can be hard to find a decent community these days that's heavy on side and saying the wrong thing can get you ostracized. Not that I care to get into such matters really, but if it does come up it, or if I'm feeling spicy, helps.
Is there many here that do frustrate you? It doesn't seem like there's anyone here who doesn't want you around.
I don't know much about the association part. The only one I can think of who would bring it up is Gilgamesh/Tsuchi/whatever the fuck the retard goes by.

I don't know about spec anymore, he's been ignoring me for a few days now. Not sure if something's up or I should take the hint.
I don't care if people bring up my past with him or anything, that doesn't really bother me. It's more of I don't want to be associated with a community run by somebody I really dislike.

I appreciate the praise, but not sure it's appropriate. Reason is an ambiguous word these days. Just with Spec's post earlier it seems he's getting a bit frustrated. It may seem like bad design to you, but thats how JRPGs are, and there are clearly lots of people who like them how they are. This conversation is going nowhere.
>if you are bad at the game you either should become better or stop playing it, and giving you an option to progress by stat-boosting is a mistake.
This is a dumb argument. What is so wrong with some people still wanting to have a way to progress in the game even if they're not good at it? And how else do you expect them to get good at it? Practice? And would that not also entail them fighting enemies over and over again until they "git gud"?
>If you want a pixelated game, make a pixelart-sy game, those are cute.
Pixelart is just nostalgia pandering shit at this point.
>Metroidvania
Only played Metroid Fusion when I was a wee lad. Not much else to say.

Nah, I had a swing at generating a somewhat memorizable and typeable utterance with decent levels of entropy but it ended up generating somewhat unmemorizeable strings too.
Anyway, take a look. It uses /dev/urandom for getting an int of entropy and then rand() for dicerolls, pls no bully. xD

https://pastebin.com/t1VH1HD0

At this point it is mostly intended for launching and looking at the strings but maybe you'll like some of them as a password.

>Danganronpa, more recently last year's Shin Sakura Wars and Code Vein.
<visual novel
<dating sim
<arpg
Weeb/10.
>Code Vein
I remember looking at that at YT and honestly immediately after seeing those grotesque anime weaponry I thought I'd rather pass. Then I scrolled forward randomly and seen some really weird scene with feeding some sort of plant some blood or something with all the motherly tones by anime hotties and I thought I will extremely pass. xD
It is artsy, I guess.
Do you like games like Neptunia also?
>Its not like vtubers are the only medium through which I consume cute girl content, its just one of many.
On a scale from 0 to this song, how cute are you?

>It may seem like bad design to you, but thats how JRPGs are, and there are clearly lots of people who like them how they are.
And that is what grieves me deeply.
>What is so wrong with some people still wanting to have a way to progress in the game even if they're not good at it?
Because those games are generally simple enough on their own save for maybe some really tough optional content?
>And how else do you expect them to get good at it?
Those stat and diceroll games are statistical/probability games, therefore they are strategy games. You are supposed to think about your next move.
I suppose new players have no way of developing a strategy but that just means the game should be really easy in the tutorial section or something.
>Pixelart is just nostalgia pandering shit at this point.
I think it has aesthetic value. I mean, sure, early games were really lowres because of the devices they ran on, but they didn't just throw pixels in all willy-nilly, there was some careful design to it. Well, sometimes at the very least.

Do you play danmaku shooters? Have you heard of Boho Youyoumu?

dunno why I'd bully. There are some magic numbers though, but seems alright otherwise

I am pretty sure you are not supposed to rely on the system rand() if you deal with security issues, at least if you know what you're doing, and I am really not. xD
>There are some magic numbers though
Yeah, I want to generate a certain amount of syllables with lower and upper bounds on them, and also throw in some numbers randomly (arguably, not randomly enough).
But later I've been thinking that writing a password manager and designing a system around the principle of never actually typing (or even copying in generic buffer) a password may be more secure. This is kinda what stopped me from thinking about that, because now I have to think about redesigning the whole OS, and frankly, I'd rather redesign hardware as well, and I don't have it in me. >_>

Only played one of them on the Vita.

Maybe you should stop being bothered by people enjoying different things than you.

Yeah, some look nice I suppose. For the most part nowadays it just seems like an easy way out for indie devs who can disguise it as "muh nostalgia".
>Do you play danmaku shooters?
No.

If your seed is "unique" during each execution, it should be "just fine". And your seed depends on the system's random, not just a time, which in itself uses entropy to generate pseudo-random numbers. It's definitely better than just using unixtime or something.

They say cute is not how you perceive yourself, it is how others perceive you! Don't be so hard on yourself.
>Maybe you should stop being bothered by people enjoying different things than you.
Nah.
Reasons should be found. Bad ways should be amended. Well, eventually somehow lol.
>For the most part nowadays it just seems like an easy way out for indie devs who can disguise it as "muh nostalgia".
I dunno. I feel like most of the indie games I've seen in that regard are pretty solid and they don't need the "nostalgia" to boost their sales at all. Something like Death Road to Canada is really nice.
>No.
Well, Boho Youyoumu is a really cute metroidvania/danmaku crossover, maybe you'll like it.

>>20130
>"just fine"
This is the road to garbage software which is leading to ruin, objectively. We don't want to go there.

Maybe the problem is simply that you don't like it, and not that it is bad.

I'll give it a try if I don't forget.

There is no such thing as objectively good or bad if it's not some matter concerning the whole humanity or something.
However, I have put forward what I believe rather objective reasons for why I don't like it. In short, it is braindead. Braindead = bad. Simple. xD
They say not all JRPGs are like that but I have hard time believing it. Do you have some 4-dimensional chess RPGs in mind?

What would you rather do? Rely on your chip manufacturer's RDRAND instruction, which a certain chip manufacturer hadn't implemented correctly, causing crashes for a game on Windows and SystemD?
