>Economic Backwardness
>The social and economic conditions of the target country must be such as to confine political participation to a small fraction of the population
In such cases a coup d'état happens with no relation to the population. But on a transitional case it may or may not happen and popular support becomes a factor. 1960s Brazil was a partially backwards economy with a partially engaged population. The 1961 coup lacked any popular support and failed, the 1964 coup was cheered by a substantial share of the population (not necessarily over 51% because it's a coup, not a referendum) and succeeded.

Carro de combate follows the French usage and is what the Army formally calls them, but civilians prefer tanque. Likewise for armored cars there is both autometralhadora (see automitrailleuse) and carro blindado.

The Tiradentes Detachment makes its triumphant entry into Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of April 2nd. Defecting regiments returned to their quarters and the occupiers settled at the Maracanã. There are a lot more details but they're of little consequence. What's really important is Mourão Filho's watershed moment, meeting Costa e Silva at the Ministry of War.
