The Olympics in Tokyo are looking to be an upset for American competitors.
It started with women's football team losing 3-0 to Sweden, before the games even officially started. (At least they managed to qualify for the knockout stage, after defeating New Zealand and drawing Australia)
Then, their men's basketball team lost to France, 83-76. The players were disorganised and it was obvious that NBA stars are not used to playing basketball as a team game, and to preferential treatment from refs.
Today, Simone Biles withdrew from team competition citing "mental health". The media are of course celebrating her as the real winner. American narcissism knows no bounds.
And also, Naomi Osaka is technically American, even though she competes for Japan. She was rekt by Markéta Vondroušová today.
After investigating a bit, someone noticed that Simone Biles was reported to be on ADHD meds, which are banned at olympics – one explanation is now that a shitload of American athletes are hooked on Adderall™ – amphetamine. No wonder they can't compete, now that they're under strict control and can't take performance enhancing drugs with impunity.
In other news, Japan currently leads the medal standings. And had it not been for three gold medals in shooting for America (heh), they'd be behind Russia and China too.
