People prefer not to sound like a supervillain (and people generally aren't). There are the hypocrites ofc, but most not even doing consciously, few people cynical and aware enough to admit the hunger for power. And they have enough justification (China isn't a lamb just born today either), and if everything fails they can say: everything considered they are still the lesser evil from all the choices (similar with democracy, "not perfect but the best possible" - as usually cited).
