>>12119 This is the official dead Russians thread. Presents for the shit spammer. Everybody, come give that faggot some presents to enjoy Keep in mind, I don't know what the difference is between Russian and Ukraine uniforms. I've noticed some digital camo on Ukrainians and the тризуб (Trident) coat of arms, so I'm avoiding posting those. Russians meanwhile have the two-headed eagle and Saint George symbol, or that piece of shit hammer and sickle. Otherwise, no fucking clue.
How do you make a game without any random elements?
1. Use conditionals instead: the world reacts to the actions taken by the player (or lack thereof) since the start of the game. For example, depending upon the state of the world (such as changes caused by the player or game clock) and the time from the start of the game's clock, certain types of enemies will act in accordance with one set of rules when they are unaware of the player (or their actions), another ruleset when they are partially aware of the player (or their actions), and another when they are fully aware.
2. for some things that would otherwise operate on a basis of chance (such as a skill that has a 25% chance of dealing double damage when used), you can instead replace it with some criteria that would activate the event once met, for example the skill mentioned above may deal double damage every fourth time it has been used, or will deal double damage if used on a certain enemy, or in a certain location on the enemy, or when the enemy is in a certain state (less than half health, on fire, etc.)
3. Initial item placements and drops would be fixed, as would the initial placement of enemies, every map would always be the same, and both encounters and npc's may appear in certain areas based on the clock and game state, not by chance.
- the world would feel more real -
Basically the whole world of a game without randomness would be deterministic, but deterministic in the same way our world is, were every prior input from the past creates the state of the present, which in turn creates the output of the future, if you know everything about the universe in any previous state, you can use that data to predict every state it would take from that point on, but there is so many bits of data and there are so many different ways they interact with one another, that it may as well be random from, our perspective.
A world of rules, plain and simple, cause and effect, everything is an equation, an algorithm, simply one of such scale that we may never be able to solve it.
>>36118 i still remember my first minecraft world. i spawned in a taiga next to a beach and a desert, it was in r1.0 i didn't know how to play minecraft. i died a lot from monsters for a while, and eventually figured out how to craft. i then built a nice small house on the beach (it was small, but felt big to me), and eventually i realised i needed food. a placed some small farming blocks down by the water, and eventually expanded it, digging a bit deeper into the sand so i made a nice wheat farm. on the backdoor of the sand house there were stairs which led down to the farm (it was a bit deep down, maybe 2-3 blocks from the surface level). i never explored, i just sat by in my cozy beach area, but one day i realised i needed materials. so i ventured into the nearby cave entrance. it was scary. but after a very long trip and facing numerous foes, i finally made it to the surface with lots of iron, coal, redstone and a single diamond. i cherished the diamond, but i didnt know what to do with it, so i made it into a jukebox. now with all the riches i had aquired, i was sure people of long and wide would come here to make a new settlement, so i made a nice hotel. it had only two rooms, but was still bigger than my other house. i also discovered a cool technique, shearing leaves and then placing them on chopped logs to create room plants! by that point i hadn't disovered flowers, and wouldn't cotninue to do so for a very long time. other projects ensued, and eventually i had a small outpost in the desert 100 blocks from my other things, as well as a cactus-protected storehouse. then, something terrible happened. one night whilst hunting for monsters, i was low on health so i fled to the storehouse, but i poked myself on a cactus. everything i had was gone. it was one of hte most tragic moments. i had to venture into the depths of the caves once more. after many deaths and tries, i got a decent iron set again, and started to look around on the surface. i realised it was snowing in the taiga, and i could collect snow, so i made place and gathered snow and built a snow castle. it was cramped and awkward, so i wasnt satisfied with it. then, my mind was blank, and i didn't know what else to do. i looked out onto a swamp, and decided to build a few mudhuts there before leaving, it all felt pointless and meaningless. so i deleted the world and moved on to other things like smp and other games. i regret it to this day, it was the world i treasured the most, all those memories will be gone forever.
>>63587 please elaborate. i stayed away from harvest moon 64 because of how awful it looked (on original hardware atleast) i also think the psx game looks better through emulation but i know nothing of the development of either. i simply liked back to nature because it's the one i know and am familiar with. if harvest moon was a game i played on n64 while growing up instead of PSX im sure that would be my favorite, but it wasnt.
however, from an objective standpoint what does 64 do better? the graphics are certainly worse. the controls are similarly responsive but the ergonomics are worse because of the retarded n64 controller.

Why won't there be a JRPG that just lets me play the fucking game? I don't even care if the battles are repetitive as shit like Valkyria Chronicles II, just let me slap together a party, jump into gameplay and progress the story through special attacks or something. Like instead of the fucking Meteo you just slap a cutscene in there, so I have a reason to farm opportunities to use special attacks even if they're shit at combat.
>>11452 >I played 3 jrpgs and now will talk about the entire genre in plural Oh god, this is anime all over again I wish normalfags had never discovered japan.

I merged the 4k, webm version of the pv, "Marissa Stole The Precious Thing" with the FLAC version of the song into an MKV file. Absolute maximum quality is only accepted by true gamers. >>11957 Do you mean something like the way TPDP works? I think you need a centralized matchmaking server to do something like that, which fighting games don't have, even with fan patches.
>>17806 I only played until 3rd gen. But how gamefreak just basically lied about everything and downgraded on every feature is pretty enraging, even to an old fan who barely remembers playing it. The board is slow enough so that the thread can post the fallout from it.

>>72255 New & big patch for the game is out, and The new expansion can be played now if you preorder it (It weird, yes, and I havent done it yet).
Talents have been reworked, and the mechanics too, with combat being somewhat slower too. I only played 2 games on Legend as Slayer & Ironbreaker (And I forgot to change the talents mind you!), and Slayer with 2 Axes+Pickaxe no much change, but I died more easily tough. Again, Dint put talents well.
Now Ironbreaker with Shield feels heavier and better, and with the talents about stagger, it should even better.
I will ask this small question for those that played beta and more: What is the thing with the talent that make first enemy hit as staggered? Is any enemy instantly staggered or what? And its worthy to get it over the other ones of that level?
Post your tough on the new changes, and any builds.
>>71742 Even worse, while Horse Armor is still a joke (that people bought anyway), content like Fire Emblem's DLC is celebrated now, even though it is the same type and amount of content.
>>53402 Finally to another meat and bones about gamplay, enemy design, the enemies are much more Lovecraftian than ever before. Miyazaki's boner over Lovecraft has gotten too strong to contain over the years, some enemies will have long grotesque limbs growing out of them and in general inhuman shapes to them. Humanoids are still a plenty, but get ready to dodge a barrage of eldricht abomination tentacles from time to time every once in a while. This in turn has affected the gameplay making it much more mobility focused as well thanks to the removal of proper poise.
In other news, there's now more variety in magic caster type enemies. Due to the fact that magic is still pretty hard to block unless you have very specific shields, yet again we see an emphasis on movement speed over planning and preptime of gear.
Oh and I forgot to mention, that a place called Farron Keep is DaS3's equivalent to Blight Town, just without the god awful performance drops of course. It's not as awful as Demon's Souls or Dark Soul's swamp levels, but it's still annoying.
You know, conspiracy theorizing used to be pretty fun before all these underage jewtube goys started shouting it down with "A GAYYYYYMM THEORY!!!1" as if it was that copypasting shill who invented it.

>>72893 >controls you mean the controls that dont let you quickly cycle through and take things out from your inventory? making feeding animals a pain in the ass? or how you cant jump over rocks or plants? >pacing goal pacing is faster in n64.. not sure if thats better given the type of game. >characters it has the same characters but back to nature has more interactions like birthdays with each character (not just girls) and tons of hidden scenes and extra events based on relationships and gifts. theres also house permission based on relationship that lets you find out more about the side characters. theres also more shops and things to do in town.
on top of that btn has cooking and a fully stocked kitchen, wool/cheese/mayo, sprites that help you farm/take care of animals for a price* so you can prep for storms/events/lengthy errands, a better mine, better performance and less buggy, jew salesman replaced with sketchy chinaman, and more capacity for animals
im not sure what you meant by stealth developer though. hm64 was developed by toybox and victor interactive (now marvelous), while btn was developed only by victor interactive. was there another developer im not aware of?

never played a touhou before. It's pretty fun but easy mode is pretty deceptive. It's funny, I've seen fan art for touhous forever and it's almost always been really high quality, great drawings, then I'm playing this and the girls pictures pop up and they're retarded looking in comparison.

>There are literally zero Cataclysm games, because game have changed so much, and Fatshark buffed enemies and difficulties so much, that people cant even do Legend runs well, nevermind finishing the Legendary Lords required to get Cataclysm. Fatshark have almost killed the game with these changes, and the beta was literally just an early access mode. The difficulty setup now is screwed because now Legend is really hard as fuck, so people cant even get the new dificulty (which was the anwer to all the other saying Legend before was easy. Even if Cataclys is really hard, no problem because that is the point, plus if its harder, then the item drop should be much higher then; But thing is I dont know how high the red item drop for Cata is because I cant even do it).): And there are retards saying that if Legend is now too hard for you, just go Champion...But making Champion feel like Legend, but with the less red item drop from champion, makes doing Champion almost useless.

Zenimax: Heyyy Guise! Come play Elder Scrolls Online for free! Save big in our April sale!
Everybody in unison: NO! FIX YOUR FUCKING BUGS!
Seriously, it's the buggiest MMO out there and they add new bugs with every fresh load of DLC goo they pump out. It's really a shame that their code - especially their network code - sucks as badly as it does because their creative side like their writing and artwork and animation and audio and entire game world is so good.
It's becoming clear that it's just all too much for them. Zenimax/Bethesda are in over their heads with ESO and can't deal with the userbase (providing tech support, game support, banning cheaters and over-the-top toxic players), and can't fix their network and multiplayer client/server bugs either because the client design and interpolation logic is too much for them or they've commited to a cloud game server third party that has issues. Their attempts to fix bugs or - for the love of god just stop - crank out yet more DLC that only breaks more and more stuff.
Apparently Sony put the screws to them and wouldn't allow preorders of the most recent chapter on the PS4 platform because ESO was so buggy and generating boatloads of crash reports. Sony basically said "Fix the bugs or no preorders!" They couldn't fix the bugs, so in an effort to at least look better to Sony, they did something with an exception handler or whatever to just start hanging and not call the crash reporting code. Careful Zen, Sony's not that stupid.

>>97722 Welp, I ended up getting a normal job as a software dev and no longer have much time to devote to this game. Plus, I sincerely doubt the world needs another unity game, let alone an FPS. I'm now working on my own game engine, when I have the time, which is much more rewarding - I'm learning all sorts of cool stuff about linear algebra, shaders, and so on. Peace and joy to you all, faggots.
>>94133 really? I started playing a few months back but dropped it inexplicably. Nothing really wrong with it just had literally played a bunch of jrpgs for about a year straight.

TPS are reliably the worst genre. Every other genre has at least 10 games you can call all time classics but what is there for third person games?
>Max Payne >Mafia 1 >Vice City or your favourite 3D-era GTA >Binary Domain >MDK >Armored Core? >Saints Row 2
And that's your lot. You could stretch it and include Red Faction: Guerilla and maybe one of the Battlefront games 1 is better, 2 is overrated consoleshit unless you mod it but even then you're 1 short of 10.
>>3435 >>11462 I started with Zelda 1 when I was very little and only went back and actually beat it a couple of years ago. All around I'd honestly say it's the best one because there's really no hand holding although there is one moment where you have to give a guy a piece of meat to open a door and I don't know if it's a translation issue but I don't know how anyone was supposed to know that, I ended up using a guide in that part. The second one I played was Link the Past on the SNES and I really really autistically loved that game as a kid and played through it multiple times. Zelda 1 Link the to the Past Link's Awakening Oracle of the Ages, and Oracle of the Seasons All of these games have a similar style of gameplay with a top down camera and swinging your sword, looking for items pushing and pulling objects etc. The shift to 3d kept the gameplay the same, you're still doing the same stuff.
That being said either start with the NES Zelda 1, Link the the Past or Link's Awakening on the Gameboy. You can't miss with any of those three in my opinion.
If you want a 3d game go for Ocaraina of Time on the n64. The pepper in fig1_sales denotes classic zelda style of game.
>>54559 This is a thread for documenting the development of my video game, W.O.R.M. Gear Online (subject to change in the future). I've been working on this for about 3 months now. Most of the Client/Server code is already done, because I'm salvaging it from a more ambitious project that was already quite developed. W.O.R.M. Gear Online is a 3D FPS, except instead of translating along the ground, the player is a flying drone, so we can translate vertically as well. The bulk of the weapons and drones are finished being developed, but still need a lot of fine tuning (e.g., is the shotgun too weak/OP?). I would also like to say that I'm on the look out for a level designer, and/or anyone else willing to contribute as a tester when the alpha is released. It's all so tiresome as a 1 man "team." Anyways, I keep my chin up, and plod on as always. Nietzsche once said, "An artist needs only his art, and his bread." In those days, paint and brushes were much simpler, notwithstanding period-blood paintings. Happy trails, lads. Will post progress here.
Does anyone want to talk about the disaster that is the Pokemon Sword/Sheild release? >No national dex >Can only catch certain levels of pokemon depending on badge >After months of lies it was as everyone predicted and they just copied and pasted the 3DS models >People are finding the models of pokemon they can't use in the code
>>60738 First, hotkey assignments are pretty much standard across roguelikes. So that's not a mishmash and you're the only one who is confused. Second, this game minimizes actions to a handful of keys. It's pretty streamlined compared to others. It's kind of like Elona where one key brings up all the menus to tab through and there aren't even many of those.
