Bothered a little with those ....
Useless in my view if you can't read/write chinese.
Had some possibilities which I considered coming closest to what was on his hat:
Love, Honesty, Tiger & Dragon.
None of them a perfect hit, but there could be some "calligraphy" (i.e. arts) involved as well, making it even harder to recognize the characters.
Personally, I don't believe it's either "dawn" or "to know".
