The story I wrote 20 years ago was tangentially (or maybe directly) related to that.
The 2 stories (one part I never wrote) are a timeline of some thousands of years of a family line, that depict an evolutionary branch that seeks adaptation maximization by achieving conscious self-adaptation beyond natural selection and such. First on a mental level (surpassing nurture, biological drives, etc...), later on a physical level (the second part I never wrote).
It also depicts the competition between nature and science, in achieving that path. The main characters naturally evolve those capacities, while the world around them seek technological means of achieving the same.
