I ask because I remember seeing some puzzles like that on 4chan and people were taking them seriously for a minute. One was some picture of a landscape and to decode it you had to put it in photoshop and fuck with the coloring until an image showed up in the sky. I agree it's an interesting and mysterious thing to happen.
