That's an uncharitable way to put it, but generally true I think. It's that the average person is way more animalistic than you. If they can bully you to gain any advantage, or raise their social standing, or just for fun, then they will do it. If you're polite they will take that for weakness every time. And like animals they generally only respond to physical action.
