I came to realize from hints posted on various boards that what is perceived as the nervous system, (funny, I used to joke about how in English it sounds like "a system that is nervous") is for most people actually a parasite. I should have known from more hints I guess, but didn't make the connection; in Shadowrun for SNES, you can install cyber nerves to shoot twice as fast. In the Dark Angel tv-series which is relevant for many reasons, there is an episode where Max installs an artificial parasite which enhances her nervous system by growing throughout her body. There is also that image often posted on /x/ of an actual nervous system of a human, however they managed to cut that out of a body. It was posted on KC yesterday with the common meme OP "this is your appearance". Then there was this disgusting vid of someone putting a mantis in a glass of water, to expose that the mantis has a parasite which escaped when it thought it was drowning.

Funny image there: mantids created Christianity/Jesuits, they in turn are controlled by a parasite?
