Let me also add, the quest giver may allow other cargo in leiu of you riding in the cart which could earn you a little extra given you put in the initial investment. The outer towns are hurting for supplies lately and are paying a 20-100% premium on certain items. Ask the quest giver for his help in this as technically he would have to claim any cargo on board as you are not a registered merchant. He may be nice and just allow it.

The risk is you may lose your cargo as part of the failure of the quest.

If you fail the contract it would cost 4sp or 10%. The quest giver doesn't expect you to insure his cart, animals or cargo which is typical of a merchant guild quest, which would pay much more but that would require you to join the merchant guild which has its own associated fees and regulations.
