Hey anons, which Linux OS is your favorite to use, and why? I'm looking to try something new myself after trying Linux Mint, Ubuntu Studio and Xubuntu. I'm looking for a Linux that is media friendly and has most media codecs pre-installed. I also want something that has Wine pre-installed or that I can use Foobar2000 for (one of the best audio players out there capable of loading very large audio collections relatively fast). I would hate to have to go back to Windows 7 just to use Foobar2000 but that is my end-game option.

Linux Mint, it just works also I just like living in the 90s, tbh Linux distro stagnation sucks I rather use mint with all of its pain points than look for anything else, because the only way you can get a perfect distro is to do it yourself or maybe go with arch/gentoo, not sure if nobara comes with wine preinstalled but they advertise themself as a gamer os so it should be, thank God I never used foobar2000 back on windows or I would have been stuck like you right now. anyway good luck.

Foobar2000 is an absolute necessity for me, unfortunately. I have a huge music collection with genres ranging from the 1920s and beyond: foxtrot, big band, jazz, doo wop, reggae, classic rock, classic pop, rock'n roll, hard rock/metal, techno, orchestral, blues, country, classical, opera, funk, easy listening, avantgarde et al. Big time and long time collection of music. The linux operating systems I tried worked very well I must admit.... but none of them (even with Wine installed!) would open Foobar2000. For big music collections like mine you need that software, it loads very quickly with ease, the numerous search and playlist options are amazing and it is far better than anything Linux systems have available for the time being (by far). I've tried so many including VLC, Rhythmbox, Audacious, Silverjuke, Qmmp, (etc) but none compares to Foobar2000 or it's ability to load quickly with ease and search through tens thousands upon hundred thousands of files in mere seconds.

that's interesting so it works with wine but fails to load a large collection? does it crash after opening a window or it just doesn't even open?

I had one Linux operating system that could load Foobar2000 back in the day, an older Ubuntu OS. All the modern Linux systems I have tried with Wine won't load Foobar2000 for whatever reason. I do notice Audacious has added a direct search option for each of the playlists you create, which is nice! I'll probably just use Audacious from now on considering that is the next best thing to Foobar2000. I have yet to test out Strawberry, which is another music player for big collectors being promoted.

I've considered trying that too anon, just have not gotten around to it. As long as I can use Audacious (and/or Wine for Foobar2000) I'd be cool using it. Again, I've just been looking for a Linux operating system where I can play huge collections of music for my surround sound speaker setup. I really won't bother using it for much else, it'll sit right next to the amplifier and mixer. When I have company over I boot it up and have the ability to play music all around the house. Great for cocktail parties with friends & neighbors, family get-togethers or even just having an old friend come over to hang out, smoke some cigars and drink some scotch.
