Yes, it looks like it was an emergency attempt to get out of the situation he found himself in once it was revealed that he's been grooming at least one minor over a year. There's no coming back from that, so the only PDD solution he could come up with is "I died I am new person now who didn't groom minors, so you can hit the reset button".
It didn't work for obvious reasons.
