Occasionally I mention here my hunch that at some point NATO will move into Ukraine citing humanitarian crisis and set up a security zone. I just heard something similar from two sources.
One, Zelensky:
https://news.sky.com/story/zelenskyy-suggests-hes-prepared-to-end-ukraine-war-in-return-for-nato-membership-even-if-russia-doesnt-immediately-return-seized-land-13263085>Mr Zelenskyy said NATO membership would have to be offered to unoccupied parts of the country in order to end the "hot phase of the war",>"If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take under the NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control," he said.>to "guarantee that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will not come back"Two, Bojo:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/11/28/uk-troops-should-help-defend-ukraine-border-in-ceasefire/Full podcast is on youtube:
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=SHRzuHYxy6shttps://youtube.com/watch?v=SHRzuHYxy6s [Embed]>"I don’t think we should be sending in combat troops to take on the Russians,” he said. “But I think as part of the solution, as part of the end state, you’re going to want to have multinational European peace-keeping forces monitoring the border [and] helping the Ukrainians.>Having troops from Nato countries instead provide security as part of a United Nations Peacekeeping Force inside Ukraine along a possible future ceasefire line would provide an Article 5-like protection, without the need for direct Nato intervention. What they are talking about is not how I imagine it. Bojo offers a less clear view of what he thinks, he also said something about sending Western troops to free up Ukrainian ones to got to the front.
Anyway, I think the main difference is that they want it happen while the AFU is still in fighting shape, while I think it will happen when it crumbles, and can't do its duty anymore.
