You may not have passed the death process or NDE to activate your vampire magic, but the world has changed a lot. Maybe you're tied to the body because of being chosen to remain, or you got the "safe stay" pendant sent to you and it's active. This would prevent any projection because it's keeping you here so you're not pushed out like the souls of all those zombies you see everywhere.
