I wanted to replace it as a first step to delay the collapse a bit so I get time to sift through the area properly. I already found 3 yellow mushroom girls down there, because of their dimensional protection, the "tower" wasn't collapsing yet. Forcing them out would require more of a build-up of negative energy, enough to make the timelines split to protect them, so that would have made it more violent and postponed to later.
Doing it like this can possibly ease the collapse a bit and allow more people to escape safely if they deserve it.
