Campaign #1 - Somewhere on the Sword Coast Joy the DM 03/08/2024 (Fri) 18:18 [Preview] No. 3440 [Reply] [Last 50 Posts]
Hello and welcome to our first campaign! I have changed many of the rules for D&D 5e due to player feedback and to foster an enjoyable play-by-post asynchronous run. Though this is also an experiment for all of us, so do try not to take it so seriously but just serious enough so you can be immersed in the lore and fantasy of the game. Please do not use this thread for meta conversation, hosts are banned from this thread and will be ignored.

Day Zero Dreams:
>>3380
>>3423
>>3426

Characters:
>>3429

Attached is the map of the Sword Coast, and our marked local map. We will be initially focusing our attention just south of Neverwinter, specifically near Neverwinter Wood and the Sword Mountains.

Though there is plenty of lore about this area, but consider our campaign one of infinitely many parallel versions with features that may not be canon.

The events in Yulya's day zero dreams take place near the coast between Neverwinter Wood and the Sword Mountains. Yulya's secluded cabin, the battlefield, Cat's raised village, and even the crash site are all places you may choose to revisit. The limits are only your imagination. Be warned though, there has been a recent uptick in bandits and other nefarious monstrous foes along the coast. Though "The High Road" is well patrolled and generally safe to travel, the many tributaries and wilds surrounding the road have been reported to have a sharp increase in danger. Travel under escort if at all possible or travel at your own peril.

[1d20=17,2,6] You haven't seen anyone on the road but after about an hour of driving, you spot the other cart, it's been abandoned and overturned off the side of the road, the rothés are seen in a far field still hooked to their yokes but broken free of the cart, it's unknown if they're still enraged but they don't seem to mind you passing.

[13:00]

[1d20=9,9] You make it back to the clearing you'd stayed the night before, still unsure and oblivious as to what to do with a dozen kids, but no matter, Cat knows what she's to do and that's cook using a mix of perfectly fine meat, that's no mystery. Soon the pots are boiling over the re-lit fire ring.

Hanna's out to wonder why you're back and with so many children. "Your party has grown!" She says and waves to the kids.

Being an extrovert with a high charisma, Hanna's soon gotten from them their names, interests, favorite colors and even started a game with them right there in the field.

Alice swallows 100gp and the signet ring to keep them safe in the lolibank. Passing by the toppled cart, Alice tosses the cleaned silver guild tag into the bushes beside the high road.

Arriving at the road stop, Alice takes the glass jar and all waterskins to collect water, then helps Cat cook.

1. I have considered giving their character cards, as I gave the rothé card before, for this battle but I thought it would be more exciting without it.

2. I was considering giving you their HP total as you take them down rather than being descriptive as the Rothé battle. I think you need it because these two will have some shenanigans that might make it very confusing including healing and other odd effects at their class and level and equipment.

Unless said otherwise I'm leaning toward giving you all this in this round. It won't effect your current round but it may affect how you battle them in the coming rounds.

I could post them with spoilers but their HP is going to have to be displayed I think. Later you may encounter a dozen enemies at once and without knowing their HP and current HP it will add extra difficulty.

Justification: You should be able to look at some creature and estimate their HP, you know their injuries and the damage, so it is reasonable to be able to know their current HP.

Called Shots Joy the DM 06/11/2024 (Tue) 18:44 [Preview] No.4597 del
Cat called a shot, "scratch to the face" and I did some research. If she got a critical hit, the location of the deep wound would be that place.

I don't think we should be calling shots as a regular thing though. It sounds gimmicky.

So I would like to give it a purpose and a penalty.

This is akin to disarming. If you call out the sword hand to make them drop it.

Disarming is something not everyone can do. It is a feature of a Battle Master fighter. They get superiority die.

So if you want to call your shots, then I want to at least give the hit less chance of striking or have less impact. So it could be -d4 to hit or -d4 to damage but then you get to call the shot and in the case of claws to the face, in the future it would have a chance to blind. To the sword hand it would have a chance to disarm. In the leg it would limit speed for a number of turns etc.

Comments?

I want to mention that blunt arrows are available, they weigh twice as much and have half the published distance but do great against skeletons since they're weak to blunt damage. They're the same cost per bundle but only come in packs of 10 for that price instead of 20.

When you want to throw a rock but you have a bow and arrows, why not combine them! The damage is the same but obviously one is piercing and the other is bludgeoning.

Ok, we gotta come up with a story now. There were some good ideas but none makes fully sense. I agree we gotta report to the roadmaster that and how we picked up the kids. I assume they will question the kids too so the story should be coherent with their level of knowledge.

We got stuck, the guys stopped and had the suffering and exhausted kids chained to the cart. We confronted them and unchained the kids then they sped away with their cart. We saw the overturned cart on the road back, they should investigate from there. Bah, that sucks and isn't convincing at all. Everything points to us as the culprits. We could only say that the rothé would not abandon their master so he must have been on bord until the cart crashed.

>In addition there is a small pouch labled ENTRY, REG, MEAL containing 60sp and 80gp
A riddle! They probably tried to enter Neverwinter and register as adventurers? I have no idea and don't pay attention to Joy's lectures. But entry for the kids alone should be 60gp assuming the two don't need to pay because they have merchant tags and the ring. That leaves 26gp. 2x10 for registration of the guys at the guild and 2x3 for a meal. Correct? Wait, they're evil, could they even register?
In any case somebody probably expects the kids to arrive in Neverwinter and that's not good. But I see no other option. If we get them into the guild to testify, Freya, Brutus and the others will make sure they won't get enslaved. Probably. I'd love to have them as teammates but seeing kids die on every quest is not my thing. So we need to deposit them at some orphanage. The guild will know.

Yulya should try to decipher the text fragment and look at the spellbook! Could she learn what's in there?

>signet ring
We absolutely need to get rid of this evidence. I mean we could use it to impersonate a noble but still. What is it made of? I could eat it for now together with our gold coins.

>arrows
>1gp each
No goddamned! 20 arrows cost 1gp! We already settled this! Well we aint gonna sell them anyway

Nah, it's better to have them missing than confirmed dead when their remins are found without any gear. I suggest throwing the cleaned silver merchant plate at their cart as we pass by.
I'm conflicted sbout the ring but I also lean toward destroying it. We don't want to get involved with nobles. We want to kill and eat them. But we neet to memorize or copy the family crest of the ring.

>24lbs for 16 persons
The 8year old kids eat the same as an adventurer? That's 1.5lbs which is 0.7 kg per child. They probably are hungry. But there will be something left for Ashley for sure.
Cat will cook the 12lbs boar meat plus 13lbs mystery meat. That leaves 32lbs mystery meat that will be preserved. We need water too because this are not full rations. Somebody needs to get it with our glass jar while Cat is cooking. We will also fill it and our 3 waterskins before we leave. We can feed the kids for a max of 3 days after this with all our food unless Ashley hunts more.

No idea about our story. Yulya?
Should we mention the accident? The driver was run over. What do the children know? I think they were told about an accident.
They fled when we confronted them about the kids which are no legal slaves and they left them behind speeding off. There was an accident where the driver was injured but they escaped. We found the cart turned over on the way back with the rothé broken free but no sign of them. Sounds ok.

Yulya should try to decipher the text immediately. Then we hide the loot among the cargo. Alice swallows gold coins and ring to keep them safe. We shouldn't wear or use any of the loot now or at the guild.

>leaving the plate at the cart
Good idea!
It would be suspicious when their corpses are found where we encountered them and far away from their cart.

>it's a fine, partly cloudy day, about 13C.
Wow, thats really cold for noon!
Where will the kids sleep at night?

So who wants what? Selling things we could use in some form is a waste. Cat will obviously get the half plate and great sword. Probably the long bow too?

Most money will be spent on entry to Neverwinter for the kids. Unless they want to go somewhere else. So we probably need to sell things to get some money.

Tales From the Sword Coast Autumn 03/20/2024 (Wed) 11:03 [Preview] No. 3650 [Reply] [Last 50 Posts]
These events take place starting one season prior to your campaign in the winter in Neverwinter Woods. Bear rescues Gwen, single handedly defeating two bandits while Gwen is bound.

After they've rizzed each other up a while Bear decides he should train Gwen in Stealth, he's a custom Ranger heavy Nordic with 1d12, rolled 18 strength boosted it +2 for backstory and human, weilding a heavy maul, but mostly Ranger spec and Gwen is an Avariel Elf with a completely unique class with elements of Bard, Cleric, Druid and Wizard 1d6 magic user type but all her cantrips are illusionist. She's built to scout and escape encounters.

So Bear's teaching her Stealth in the forest and SheShe [DM and playful God] rolls an encounter on them, looks up random 1d100 list and it's goblins arguing about treasure. 1d5+1 rolled 6 goblins. The difficulty is 150 exp which is hard for a couple lvl 1's but Gwen doesn't even have a weapon because she "can't weild steel" so the dagger and short sword they got from the bandit loot weren't useful. She'd be stuck throwing rocks and her wings were trimmed by the babdits to prevent escape. They won't be flight ready for a month at least.

So they roll a 1 on Stealth to escape detection, which is a disaster. Anyway, it's near dusk but the goblins all have dark vision (who doesn't) so since they couldn't escape and furthermore rolled 1 the goblins "heard something". They all roll perception (-1) against Gwen's stealth because you have to roll vs the weakest party members but thankfully Gwen has 18DEX bc her rolls were Cat tier. Only two goblins "see something" and walk toward them.

Next turn, Bear and Gwen try to escape again and barely manage it, two Goblins were striking range (10ft) with initiative but thankfully they escaped, passing two rolls (one for each actively seeking goblin).

It was crazy stressful for Bear thinking he was going to be out in scene 3.

[Ashley] Bear better frigging survive the season, I want to rizz him up too goddamnit.

More tales will follow!

Alice plotting to gas people again

Autumn 06/11/2024 (Tue) 11:33 [Preview] No.4596 del
Wow, we defeated 10 skeletons, 10 twig blights, and 4 goblins, got past that, healed and rested somewhat, triggered an encounter resting but the hobgoblin fled. Only problem is he fled to help the boss level.

We walked right into a trap

-1 hobgoblin
-3 skeletons
-3 twig blights
-level 2 wizard
-level 4 fighter
-level 4 boss ranger with 97 health due to some crazy fruit he ate that gave him +70 health.

We couldn't kite them as it was a surprise but we were being stealthy so it was a wash. They pinned us down and soon Freya and I were surrounded and Bear managed to block in Ashley though she still had exposure to a skeleton and with 6hp one hit could have done it. She totally forgot about her shield too.

So there was a lot of unlucky rolls early but that turned around. Freya was the only one with AOE (Burning Hands) but it exposed her too. She got two of those off killing at least 4, Ashley did her Demoralize curse on the big guy followed up by a witch curse from me made him hallucinate for 3 turns while Bear took out the wizard, Freya's Hellish Rebuke took out the hobgoblin, Gwen's Radiant something managed to take out a skeleton, Bear's Maul took out others, Ashley's cats took care of the fighter believe it or not. She has that Rally Attack which in SheShe's run allows her to cast it on everyone but in yours she can only choose one. It's super OP if not because she had summoned 2 cats and managed to get them flanking then they attacked 4 times and hit all with advantage and did some crazy like 22 hp damage.

There were a few errors in the encounter that SheShe and Joy need to decide what to do with in general because Ashley cast 2 things transformed then we forgot she transformed. Oops. I don't think it was too significant but we either need to redo the encounter from a two turns back or accept errors both in our favor and not in the future.

We fought in a 5v7 against five ancient elven warrior skeletons. We had two NPC's with us and these skeletons had great swords with +6 to hit and 16AC due to breastplates. Their HP was 30-50 so we had to concentrate fire and thankfully Bear's maul does double damage against skeletons so he was able to one-shot one right away and was MVP of DPS. Gwen and I helped whittle them down and Gwen also healed because they downed one of our Paladin NPCs and almost Bear. It could have gone badly, we were pretty evenly matched.

>What leven are you now?

We are all level 2 but we have enough XP for level 3. We just finished a big quest with a big payout and we need to go back to Neverwinter. Ashley just leveled through special means, so that does open the door for you all to level and not have to go all the way back to Neverwinter but it was very special circumstances and she's still stuck with the copper plate because that comes from the guild. Since we have Freya with us, she "pulled some strings".

Yes! We also got title achievements with associated bonuses owed to us upon leveling and Joy is considering giving you all some upon leveling.

Interesting, that's what I wanted, though I doubt the tubers will become invasive. They're very big, it might be a different species. They're so calorie dense, 1/16th acre can sustain a person intdefinately.

There's tons of such sunflower-like asteraceae in the Americas but host is pretty certain yours is the common sunchoke or topinambur. Like with most crops, there's a ton of varieties bred for different purposes with varying tuber shape, size and color. In Germany it's mainly grown for liquor destillation but also animal feed and biofuel. It's healthy and has quite some potential but is invasive ans many don't like the taste and consistency. Also the tubers can't be stored for long. Don't know about California but in Europe it can only be harvested in autumn and winter. The tubers are hardy deep in the soil but while growing in spring and summer the plant exhausts the tubers so there's nothing to harvest. Only makes sense after the new tuber is formed in autumn. So it's a seasonal crop that's unavailable for half a year.

Have you tried sweet potatoes? They should grow in your climate. It's too cold here.

Too many pillbugs, they don't stand a chance. As with radishes, carrots, beets and other near surface tubers. The bugger bugs just live everywhere, but these are the cute small ones that walk snail speed and roll into perfect spheres not the big flat scary ones that run fast.

>>4655
>And I see your pomegranates are already flowering?

They flower three times a year, Early spring, late spring, summer. All three form fruit and so the fruit are several stages. These are two years old and had fruit last year, I have two different species planted together for cross pollination.

They were mildly tasty, hopefully this year they'll do better because they dried out several times last year, now that they're in the ground they'll be fine.

Bear went to an unnamed fun park today with Bestie and Bestiemom and some mid twenty-something girl gave Bear a wink and thumbs up and he had his shades on so he pretended not to notice her, but then she followed him and bestie onto a ride and kept like doing creepy things that resembled flirting. Then she followed him to another ride and video'd him in on the ride with Bestie. It was totally weird.

He reminded me that about two weeks ago some rando recognized him from that show he did 10 years ago somehow. He doesn't look the same because he was super thin at that time but since he lost weight he does look thin now so it kinda makes sense.

He used to just deny it and say, "no, but I do look like him don't I?" But this time it had been so long when they said, "hey, aren't you blah blah blah from blah blah blah?" he just said, "yeah what's up?"

They wanted a picture and he was tired and let them then said, "don't release that anywhere with my name tagged" which is a dumb thing to say because it's guaranteed they will.

That's all I have to report!

I have no idea what any of that means and I intend to keep it this way. Is that what Bestie talks about?

Host only hangs out with gen X or literal boomers.
Wait no, neighborhood loli asked him something about some new monster movie for kids or something. Too bad, we don't watch movies and are completely detached from any worldly worries, trends or fashions. Feels good man.

I remember, you already told us! Maybe he was a Redskin and you were the foreigners in his country. That's raycis btw.

Anyway the people in the 1st video lost their jobs, were thrown out of university and face up to 5 years in prison for singing songs. It's unreal.
The sandnigger terrorist who killed a policeman and injured several others will probably receive less.

Also playing Gigi D'Agostino's song L'amour toujours is now considered a hate crime, radio stations refuse to air it and it will be b& from Oktoberfest. You can't make this shit up.

But I love this song, it's so wholesome!
Especially with the new text

Already posted it here

The organ is awesome! Never heard one IRL. He's playing 2 different things with his hands and feet? What are all the keyboards for and the knobs at the sides?

Organs are super awesome and were the most complex human-made devices until the early 20th century. An organ essentially is a huge mechanical computer full of logic circuits. Operated by air going through valves instead of electricity through transistors. It can have several ten-thousand pipes (yes indeed) which can be combined by a set of stops or registers (the knobs at the side). They are mechanical switches determining which and how many pipes are activated when you press a key on one of the keyboards. It's insanely complicated and the biggest organs were operated by dozens of people.
Nowadays much is automated by electronic switches.

The keyboards are called manuals and control a set of pipes called ranks that are equivalent of an entire instrument. Theres also the pedal clavier for bass. An organ is literally a medieval synthesizer capable of producing a huge repertoire of sounds. Extremely powerful sounds from infra- to ultransonic. Far more than any modern speaker. At the cost of size, complexity and cost.

Unfortunately I know virtually nothing about music, can't play an instrument or even read notes. But this is high-tier science.
