Some jerk just set up a bot on /meme/ and the bot keeps uploading disgusting pictures. This effects the whole image section on the front page. We would like endchan to block these kind of malicious bots, could you please enforce the CAPTCHA for all posts? This would stop this bot in its tracks.

I've been considering changing the way endchan handles boards. I think it's obvious at this point that completely free board creation and completely soverign BOs doesn't really work; judging from 8chan you just get a massive graveyard of unused boards with none of the independence people were raving about back in 2014. Basically you get redchanit. On the other hand I think it's self-evident that letting users moderate themselves and have input on board creation is a good idea. I want to see what you guys think about it, but here's what I'm thinking of as a broad-strokes plan right now:

>1. Nuke all the zero-post boards so the site looks like less of a ghost town
>2. Start compiling a list of boards to keep
>3. Turn off board creation for normal accounts, set up a process for topic splitting (where there's enough traffic for a topic to justify its own board; think /tg/ splitting off of /b/ in the ancient days of 4chan) and refugees from other sites to get their own boards
>4. Add a "don't be a shit BO or you're getting ejected" clause to the global rules
>5. Delete the small and dead boards that didn't make the list from 2, giving plenty of warning so people can archive their favorite threads

I think that this way we'll get some of the promised benefits that the "redchanit" model was supposed to give imageboards (BOs that actually give a shit, a board list that reflects posting activity) and not the bullshit.

NONE OF THIS IS GUARANTEED TO HAPPEN. THIS IS JUST A TEST BALLOON AT THIS STAGE.

Christmas is coming up fast and that means it's time to start picking out material for the Third Annual Endchan Christmas Special. For those of you who missed it last time, every year we stream Christmas movies, Christmas cartoons and whatever random shit we thought would be funny to celebrate the anniversary of the site. Post any cool shit you want to see streamed next month in this thread.

I messed up during the migration. While waiting for the final database copy, I thought I'd upgrade/patch some servers, unfortunately I upgraded the box I was copying from. And I rebooted it without thinking about it. Now I manage around 20 servers that run hundreds of containers, so keeping track of everything isn't as easy as if I just had a couple. Also in my day job I get paid to professional move websites all the time. I make good money doing it, so I'm not a complete newb but I have no accounting for how I made such egregious error. I had a plan and just made a mistake.

Last year when we got the dedicated server, we built state of the art encryption into it. To the normal internet it looks like a website (unlike anything like Endchan) but with a special certificate our frontend server have, it runs the Endchan site. We split the drive into 3 sections, the camouflage (fake site / web server and relay), the app (lynxchan, megud, other site utilities), and the database. Then we encrypted the app and data drives. I held the keys to app, and Balrog the keys to data. We did have the foresight to give a back up of these password to other people just incase one of us got hit by a bus. Well Balrog and his backup StephenLynx both failed to find the correct password from a year ago.

So the two events combined means we can't access the latest copy of the Endchan data. So where does that leave us, well we had a full copy from 4/19 that we were syncing with the live data during the migration time. When it stop copying, it left the database in an inconsistent state. The mongo repair tool has done a great job recovering what you see;

we have most of posts but are missing a lot of database files (a great example of why you never store images in a database; we should only be missing the new files from last week on).

I fucked up, Balrog fucked up, and StephenLynx doesn't even remember us giving him the password. If just one of 4 events had gone another direction, we would not have been here.

I proposed throwing in the towel. My recent battles with pedospammers has not been fun but Balrog put it well: "we're still one of the only imageboards worth a damn and people need us goddamn it"

I considering just running the board with no content, even thought about switch imageboard software. Balrog said we should take it to a vote and let you guys decide. But to be honest we recovered more than I was expecting and the lynxchan repair process (rebuilding HTML files) is still running (going to take a long time on these older servers).

To be clear why we migrated, our donations levels were so low, we could no longer afford that server. Our previous server was awesome, a full year of uptime (Another reason why we never needed these passwords because the machine never went down).

In retrospect our set up was probably more complex than needed but it was just an attempt to help secure you're guys data the best we could. Our new drives are no longer encrypted.

We have a problem with /pol/. One of our newly appointed mods is apparently the "nigger spammer" who is using Tor to bump old threads. I am suspecting the BO and the mod to be either one and the same person using different VPN mod accounts or BO has hi-jacked the board to crash it by employing his friends or family members.

Right now i was banned for exposing the new mod to be the spammer himself in the board own meta thread. As you may understand /pol/ is a NS board which is targeted by so many groups of people.
While the new mod is creating dozens of "honey pot" threads old popular threads were slid and /pol/ is dying.
The board is dying and I don't know what we suppose to do.
Some posts and threads are deleted, I myself was banned in the meta thread. The mods are creating a chaos and they they use it to ban random people and lock and delete unwanted threads.


The BO himself has developed the tactic to let the mods do the job for him so he keeps his clean image. Once a mod has messed up the board far enough he simply replaces him (likely with the same guy by deleting the old mod account and creating a new one. Ocolette is owning the board for approximately 5 months now and it has become same bs as 8/pol/ were people are getting banned unfairly and for ridiculous reasons.

I have taken screenshots and archived all evidence. I'm ready to upload it if required.
People are now leaving /pol/ in big numbers and I ask you to help to save the board from Ocolette and his moderation.

can something be done about /news/? it used to be a real news outlet, now it's a fucking alt-right shitspouting extension of /pol/ and these "news" are on the front page

not everyone has right wing beliefs and /news/ being the way it is on the front page is as good as admitting the admins are /pol/cucks

either change the moderation and remove biased posts or remove it from the frontpage

The great Endchan reconstruction has now officially begun.

We're now in the middle of our 3rd year. We're still one admin down, Balrog has also been extremely busy and while I've tried to be responsive, I've been less and less. So basically we've been 2 half admins of the 3 we're supposed to have. And after some discussion with Balrog, we think we've made an error; We never trusted any one with any power. We never took any chances growing our site. And I think for this site to continue, we're going to need to take some chances and recruit some fresh blood.

We want to build a team of passionate community members to improve the site.

We're looking for:

- Linux (Devuan-based) system admins with experience with pm2, node and mongo
- Janitors
- Creators (artists, designers, memes, music, videos, etc)
